Meet Masanobu Fukao –

CRA in Japan

Masanobu has been a part of the Functional Service Provision (FSP) team at ICON for one and a half years now. He told us about his interesting career history and what brought him to ICON. While he was overseas, Masanobu spent some time working for International Airlines and then at an insurance company. His decision to move back to Japan was confirmed when he secured a spot to study nursing. Following his studies, Masanobu worked in a hospital where he gained exposure to a clinical setting and saw how he could help to improve patients’ lives.

As a company, we’re driven to advance medicine and make a difference in healthcare, so understandably, Masanobu saw our company as a perfect place to bring his unique mix of skills. He joined the team as a Clinical Trial Assistant (CTA) and reflects that he was very new to the industry and had so much to learn. ICON was eager to teach him everything that he needed to know and to invest in his development. His hard work paid off and within half a year he was promoted to a Clinical Research Associate (CRA).

Masanobu isn’t stopping there. He’s got his sights set on a project manager role and has given himself a timeline for when he hopes to achieve this. It’s ambition like that that will get you very far at ICON and when we spot it in a colleague we’ll do everything we can to help them reach their full potential.

Aside from the opportunities to progress in his career, Masanobu explains that the best thing about ICON is that everyone is open. The management team and executive team are transparent and make sure to disclose any information they can so that the business can have a discussion and tackle any challenges together. Masanobu says that his team regularly receive praise and recognition, and this is the sort of culture that he wants to remain a part of.
